Chitika Ads are another way to monetize your site but they work only specifically for people who have a lot of American and Canadian search traffic.

Basically, Chitika will only show the adverts on your site to visitors who enter you site via the search engines and also if they started that search from America or Canada. If this describes you, read on.

chitikaads2As a publisher, there are a few types of adverts for your to choose from but the easiest to get you started are the Chitika Premium Ads. This type of advert pays you for every click that is registered on the advert and encourages this with small pictures placed next to the link to make it more appealing (unlike Google Adsense).

There are a number of ad sizes to choose from, so have a look through them and choose whichever one best fits your site. The color of the font and the font type itself can also be customized.

Have a look at my other site, http://thegadgetmonster.com and if you’re viewing the site from America or Canada it should appear.

If it doesn’t appear for some reason or if you’re viewing the site from another country, type this into the address bar instead: http://thegadgetmonster.com#chitikatest=mortgage then press ctrl + f5 to refresh the page. It will show you a preview of what the advert would look like if my site was about ‘mortgages’ or if someone was searching ‘mortgages’ on the plugin.

I’ve only just installed it, but it looks promising as another way to make money online, on top of that I have Adsense placed in strategic positions on that site as well. Gadgets are highly advertised online so I should get some targeted adverts for my viewers to click on.

I’ll let you know how it goes,

Been trying to make money with online ads like Adsense and Advertlets for a few months now. Not so successful at the moment. I’ve only made 10cents with Adsense and RM0.45 with Advertlets.

My question is, why would people want to click on the ads in the first place? I mean, thinking from a rationale person’s POV, I wouldn’t click on the ads. Yet I hear of people making a fortune from Adsense and stuff. Would appreciate some enlightment from someone with more experience in the business. :)

Well put it this way, say someone comes to ur site looking for some key bit of information about something… ur site gives them something useful but not 100% complete information about it and they see the advert for what they were looking for.

    Wouldn’t they click it?

Take my gadget site http://thegadgetmonster.com, it gives gadget news but someone might actually be looking for the website of a specific gadget instead. So wouldn’t that compel them to want to click ur advert?

It’s possible to make money with Adsense, not easy but definately possible.

I am leaving this comment anonymously so you don’t think I’m advertising my site…

Anyway, Chitika Linx makes me quite a large chunk of money. They are the in-text ads. I chose the dotted underline method, which seem to get a lot of clicks and I have yet to have a single complaint about them (and my site has nothing to do with making money). Been running them for about 3 months now and am pulling in a nice amount…don’t want to disclose as i think its against the TOS. I’d recommend giving them a try though

you could have put a link to your site in your avatar if you wanted, my blog pulls a link from your blog’s RSS and links to you automatically anyway =)

Thanks for the tips and I’ll definately have a look at the in-text ads, although some of the sites I’ve created were designed to sell a single affiliate product and I’d rather not drive people away from the site.

But will give it a try for Adsense optimized sites…

    Thanks!
