Below you’ll find the steps on how to buy your web hosting and domain name, don’t worry it’s easy as pie or easy as curry puff (if you’re in Malaysia):

1) Buy Hosting and Your Domain Name

To start the process, we need you to get yourself some web hosting so we can install your WordPress blog.

Below are 3 options for you to consider. The main differences are:

Bluehost – $6.95 per month fixed price, but you need to pay for either 1 year, 2 years or 3 years upfront. Unlimited domains (will be useful in the future), unlimited transfer and unlimited space for every account.

Hostgator – Option to pay monthly, half yearly or 1 year upfront, but with different prices for each. Also, different prices for unlimited space, transfer and domains. Good alternative to bluehost if you would rather pay montly rather than upfront for a year, however lots of different prices for different options.

Exabytes – This solution is primarily for Malaysian blog owners as access to emails and uploading files to your server is much much faster from within Malaysia. Only for 1 domain and with limits on disk space and transfers, but is more than enough for most peoples’ use.

Bluehost Web Hosting

If you’ve decided on Bluehost, please follow carefully the instructions below:

Make sure you have the Bluehost window open (it should already be open if you clicked on the banner above). If not, click here to go to the Bluehost webpage.

You should see the webpage above. Click the large green ‘Sign Up Now…’ button.

At the next page, fill in the domain name that you’d like to use for your blog. You must fill in the box under the label ‘I Need A Domain’. Click ‘Next’ once you have done this.

If that domain name is not available, you will see the page above. Type in an alternative name for your website and click ‘Next’ to try again.

If your chose domain name is available, you’ll be taken to the purchase screen above. Take care in filling all the requested information.

Important: Use the same email address that you originally used to purchase the Install-a-Blog package on this site.

Once you are ready, click ‘Next’ at the bottom of the page.

If your payment is successful, you will be emailed your login details for your new Bluehost account.

Host Gator Web Hosting

If you’ve decided on Host Gator, please follow carefully the instructions below:

Make sure you have the Host Gator window open (it should already be open if you clicked on the banner above). If not, click here to go to the Host Gator webpage.

You should see the page above once you click the link. Click the large yellow rectangle labelled ‘View Web Hosting Plans’.

On the next page, choose a plan which fits your budget and needs. I would suggest choosing either the Hatchling or Baby plans, as the business plan is probably beyond your requirements at this point.

If you don’t need unlimited domains (i.e. you only plan to have one blog) then click ‘Order Now’ under the ‘Hatchling Plan’.

The first thing you’ll need to do is purchase a domain name for your blog. Go ahead and type in a domain you’d like to use.

Once you’re done, click ‘Continue to Step 2’.

If your chosen domain name is not available, you will see the error message above. Type in an alternative domain name and click the ‘Continue to Step 2’ button again.

If your chosen domain name is available, you will be brought to the page above. On this page you will be asked to fill in a series of different options.

The most important of these is the ‘Package Type’ and ‘Billing Cycle’. The longer the billing cycle, the cheaper the price. Also, unless you know you are going to be installing multiple blogs on your server, you will only need the ‘Hatchling’ plan.

You’ll be able to upgrade your hosting at any time by contacting Host Gator, so don’t worry about choosing a package which you think is not ‘big’ enough.

Please make your selections and fill in the rest of the required information, including username, password and credit card details.

Important: Use the same email address that you originally used to purchase the Install-a-Blog package on this site.

When you’re done with filling in your details, scroll to the bottom of the page and click ‘Create Account’.

If your payment is successful, you will be emailed your login details for your new Host Gator account.

Exabytes

If you’ve decided on Exabytes, please follow carefully the instructions below:

Make sure you have the Exabytes window open (it should already be open if you clicked on the banner above). If not, click here to go to the Exabytes webpage.

You should see the page above after you have clicked the link. Click ‘Add to cart’ to go to step 1 of the process. You can leave the domain name empty, since it’ll ask you again on the next page anyway.

Select the first option ‘I want Exa Bytes Network Sdn Bhd to register a new domain for me’ and type in your preferred domain name in the box provided. Click the ‘Click to Continue’ button to see if the domain is available.

If your chosen domain is unavailable, you will be informed on the page. Type in an alternative domain name and click the ‘Click to Continue’ button again to do a new search.

If your domain name is available, you will see the screen above. Select which domain name you would like, how long you would like to purchase it for, then scroll down the screen and click the ‘Click to Continue’ button.

Choose how long you would like to purchase your web hosting for (1 year or 2 years) and click ‘Update Cart’.

There are some optional add-ons on the next page, but you do not need to purchase any of these at this point in time.

Scroll to the bottom and click ‘Update Cart’ again.

This is the summary page of your selections. Review it carefully and make sure it has the correct domain name and duration on it.

Once you have confirmed the details, scroll to the bottom of the page and click ‘Checkout’.

Fill in all your details and when you’re ready, select your payment method and click ‘Complete Order’.

You will be sent an email from Exabytes with a link or instructions to carry out your chosen payment option.

If your payment is successful, you will be emailed your login details for your new Exabytes account.

2) Send Us Your Login Details and Preferred Theme

The last step is to choose your theme for your blog and to send us your login details, we can install any free themes that you can find out there. Some good sites for free themes are:

Lastly, once you have completed payment of your web hosting and domain name, you will receive an email in your account with your username and password. You can see what these look like for the different companies below:

NB: The actual words in the email may change from time to time, but as long as they send your username, password, domain name and IP address, that’s enough information to have your blog installed.
